The Fownes and Melvin families were some of the original settlers in this area. They were both big shipbuilding families with captains who sailed all around the world - including Europe, India, Africa, Australia, and the Pacific coast of the United States. More than 45 are buried in the two restored cemeteries. If you do the loop, it's about a 1km hike.
