Trip Highlights
St. Martins, New Brunswick, is home to several picturesque covered bridges that add to the charm and nostalgia of the region. These bridges, with their unique designs and historic significance, are popular attractions for both locals and visitors.
Did you know......
Back in the olden days, gentlemen would stop their horse drawn carriages to steal a kiss freom their lady in the privacy of the covered bridges.
St Martins Harbour is the only place in the world you can get a photo of two covered bridges in one shot.
Here are a few notable covered bridges in the St. Martins area:
Vaughn Creek Covered Bridge: Located next to St Martins Harbour, this historic covered bridge spans the Irish River. It is the only two lane covered bridge in the world.
Hardscrabble Covered Bridge is a single lane bridge over the Irish River. The little red house behind it makes the perfect photo.
Tynmouth Creek Covered Bridge
It is a single-lane bridge with a classic covered bridge design. It blends seamlessly into the scenic landscape and provides a delightful spot for photographs.
These covered bridges not only serve as functional structures, allowing for the passage of vehicles and pedestrians, but they also serve as landmarks that embody the history and character of St. Martins. They harken back to a time when covered bridges were common in the region, providing protection from the elements and adding a touch of romance to rural landscapes.
When visiting St. Martins, taking a leisurely drive or walk to explore these covered bridges can be a delightful way to immerse yourself in the area's rich heritage and enjoy the scenic beauty of the surrounding countryside.
